I can fly…

I did it! I ran across a technique yesterday to encourage lucid dreams. It’s called WBTB (wake-back-to-bed). Click here for more info.

I actually became lucid at two seperate points. I didn’t maintain lucidity for very long, but the feeling was exhilarating! In the first part I was in a room with another person (don’t remember who). Something triggered my realization that it was a dream and I decided to test this by attempting to float. It worked magnificently and I floated all around the rather small room I was in. It was very effortless. It seemed as if the thought of moving got me to where I was going more so than any sort of physical action.  The lucidity wore off relatively fast. At least I think it did because I don’t remember doing anything else. Perhaps I saved the universe from eminent destruction and simply don’t recall it. ;-)

Later on I was walking down Appleway Rd in Spokane on the sidewalk and once again realized it was a dream. Since I was outside this time I decided that flying would be more interesting than floating. I jumped into the air and flew straight up about 20 or 30 feet.  I rotated around a bit and saw a mountain in the distance. I decided I wanted to fly as fast as possible toward it. I did so with great speed, however I didn’t quite feel that I was able to maneuver with the effortless action that I floated with. I had the feeling that flying with the degree of skill and speed I desired would take some practice. It was still very fun and excited though. Once again the lucidity either wore off or I don’t remember from that point on.

Both of these occurances happened after I woke up around 6am and went back to  bed. I didn’t actually get out of bed and stay awake for an hour as the link above mentions. However, it seems clear to me that the consciousness invoked by waking up helped to encourage it in my dream. I’m so excited to develop my ability to achieve lucidity!

almost lucid

Had this dream last night…

The part I remember starts in Spokane near where my Grandmother who recently passed away lived. I am with my cousin Jeremy crossing Argonne Rd just south of Trent Ave. We get to the west side of Argonne and gaze upon the parking lot across the street. There is a guy about our age dragging a yellow sports car across the lot. He has picked up the front end with his right hand and is non-chalantly dragging it towards the road as if it is one of those bags with wheels you always see at the airport (or annoyingly, on college campuses). Jeremy gasps and shows great surprise at what’s happening. It doesn’t quite register as out of the oridinary for me yet. Then the guy just kind of picks the car up and tosses it into oncoming traffic.

At this point I realize that this is very bizarre.  [This would have been a perfect moment to realize I am in a dream and reach lucidity, but I did not.]

Our gaze pans left and now the parking lot has 5-6 guys who all seem to possess this same unnatural strength. Jeremy and I decide its in our best interests to get out of there and begin to run the opposite direction. We escape with great speed and come to a small ravine in a wooded area embedded within the city. Jeremy is tired from the sprint, but I feel fine. [This could have been another indicator of dreaming, we just sprinted a lot and I'm not tired at all.]

I realize  that we left our backpacks where we first started. My macbook pro is in my bag and I tell him I have to go get it and will be right back. I sprint off towards the street and head back to our bags. On the way I pass several police cars speeding toward me. I suspect that the police presence must be related to the mutant strenght fiasco (even though they are speeding away from them). Because I am sprinting they slow down for a moment and suspect that maybe I am a person of interest. I somehow manage to relay to them that I am not who they’re looking for and they proceed. [Another good indicator of dreaming, as I remember it this occured telepathically.]

I continue my sprint back toward my precious laptop but encounter a police blockade and these fellas aren’t so open to my telepathic plea of innocence. They make it very clear that there is no way I am getting past them. My argument that my laptop is back there fails to convince them. I run parallel to the blockade and away from them with the idea that I will go around.

Then my delightful cell phone alarm wakes me up from what seemed like uninterupted sleep. Except of course for Pythias needing to go outside at the very convienent 5:30am. (luckily Pasi let him out ;-) )

So what do you think? Any thoughts or analysis?

I feel like some of the laptop stuff is related to my research of netbooks and difficulty in thinking about letting my macbook pro go. I know that I don’t really want to travel with such an expensive concern, but its so pretty and powerful! LOL.
